What will the headlines say November 9?

“CANNABIS, A  CONSTITUTIONAL  RIGHT  in  FLORIDA” the headlines will read on November 9th, 2016.

I'll explain, I'm a member of a purely grassroots organization “Floridians For Freedom” (FFF) (www.FloridaFreedomGroup.com) a completely non-partisan political action committee. Our members are a diverse group of wonderful individuals working to end the prohibition of cannabis in Florida. This is far overdue, and millions agree. For decades otherwise law abiding Floridians have lost their freedoms, been forced to forfeit their personal property, and have been denied the right to seek natural remedies for illness. SOMETHING MUST CHANGE!!!  FFF is extremely proud to be sponsoring the constitutional amendment “THE RIGHT OF ADULTS TO CANNABIS”.

Floridians For Freedom cares deeply about the health and well-being of our great state, and our constitution. FFF has spent a considerable amount of time discussing the correct path forward. Our conclusion, FFF unanimously believe that a constitutional amendment is the best and perhaps, only option. We must fight to restore a personal liberty that should be our fundamental right. The right of adults to access this healing plant should belong to all of us and belongs safely protected within our constitution. Our amendment will ensure all responsible adults 21 yrs. and over have access to this incredible plant. Whether for health, personal, or even industrial purpose, all of these uses deserve a safe and legal pathway. Adults should have the same freedoms and responsibilities we currently enjoy with alcohol. This amendment will remove barriers to the plant, without hindering legislators ability to create sensible policy.

FFF are not naïve, we clearly understand the challenges ahead. Decades of misinformation, scare tactics and special interest groups lobbying for harsher cannabis laws have turned this amazing plant into, well, something else. It is time to challenge the past with the facts of the present. Many of the FFF’s board members have been personally involved in this battle for 20 plus years. Our team is experienced, focused and sincerely believe this amendment is what's needed for the betterment of our wonderful state. We must secure our amendment's place on the ballot to force the proper debate cannabis deserves. Signing our petition is not a vote!!!  Whether supporting or against, please sign our petition. Let the facts revealed during the debate process decide your vote.

FFF, as a grassroots organization believe this task is the responsibility of all who support cannabis and/or individual freedoms. A “YES” vote for this amendment will result in; Patients having access to natural treatments in which terminal diagnosis is not necessary to qualify.  Farmers will have options to cultivate more profitable crops. Law enforcement's resources would be better utilized, and most importantly; we'd stop the  arrests of our fellow Floridians, our friends, family, or even those visiting our beautiful state.

We ask for your help. We need volunteers. Collecting signatures is just phase one and there are many opportunities to be part of this initiative. To those supporting our amendment “May the light of truth guide us through the darkness of prohibition”.

A Cause for Liberty Lovers

Lovers of liberty and supporters of competitive markets have cause for celebration this month as the reins of freedom are being returned to the hands of the people of the State of Florida.  The criminalization of cannabis has, for too long, caused the suffering of our citizens.  Seriously ill patients have been prevented from alleviating their own pain and administering their own life-sustaining treatments.  Responsible adults have been infantilized into begging permission simply to possess a plant.

The plant is one so innocuous, so fundamental to the foundations of our democracy that it was used to make the very paper that our country’s Declaration of Independence was drafted on and even grown by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.  This month Floridians for Freedom, a political action committee of which I am a part, announced its sponsorship of an initiative entitled “The Right of Adults to Cannabis.” This amendment to the Constitution of the State of Florida will guarantee responsible adults the right under state law to possess, use, and grow cannabis on their private property without fear of state governmental interference.

As part of the team that created Floridians for Freedom, I assure you, we’ve thought long and hard about the best path to legal cannabis for responsible adults.  For twenty years our members have fought tirelessly to change unjust cannabis laws.  We have, simply, waited long enough for incremental change.  After 20 years of effort, only a handful of people are permitted to legally use and possess cannabis in Florida.  Even fewer are permitted to grow cannabis.  Our amendment allows patients to treat themselves by putting a seed in the ground without violating state law.  This kind of common sense approach to cannabis decriminalization will make it less expensive and safer to develop effective cannabis therapies.

To quote Stan Lee, Floridians for Freedom recognizes that “with great power comes great responsibility.”  As Floridians take back the power to treat themselves and to make reasonable adult decisions, we also have the responsibility of ensuring that legalization does not jeopardize the health and safety of our community.  Our proposed amendment credits our state lawmakers with the ability to effectuate these goals and tailor legislation that will respect our individual rights while ensuring essential safeguards are met.  Under this Amendment minors still will not have access to the plant and regulations protecting public safety, such as driving while impaired, will not be repealed.  Yet the amendment creates a powerful barrier to governmental overreach.

This amendment also approaches the commercial sale of cannabis with a respect for free market principles.  There are no artificial impediments written into this amendment to protect the business interests of a wealthy few.  By ending prohibition and permitting reasonable legislative regulation, small businesses will be able to enter the commercial market on equal footing and local governments will be able to tailor rulemaking to the actual health and safety needs of their communities.

This amendment is an important step forward not only for those with an affinity for the plant, but for those of us who believe in the fundamental tenets upon which our country was founded, liberty and justice for all.  Floridians have suffered long enough being denied access to this plant.  We ask Floridians to accept the mantle of responsibility thrust upon them by our federalist system and sign the petition to protect the right of adults to cannabis in Florida.

Freedom is nothing to fear

Cannabis reform in Florida is taking a giant leap forward this month.  I’m a member of a grassroots organization, Floridians For Freedom (www.floridafreedomgroup.com), a nonpartisan political action committee.

We are sponsoring the constitutional amendment; “THE RIGHT OF ADULTS TO CANNABIS”, and are working to end cannabis prohibition and assure people have the right to cannabis without fear of government interference.

Our members have worked over 20 years trying to change the laws; and have waited long enough for incremental changes.  The amendment simply gives responsible adults the same right to cannabis we already enjoy with alcohol.  These last 20 years have shown us that we need this constitutional amendment to make the changes necessary to reestablish our natural right to this plant.  We deserve a safe and legal pathway to use this plant for medicinal, industrial, or recreational reasons without hampering the legislature to create strict rules governing the sale of cannabis.

This amendment does NOT allow; anyone under 21 years old to possess or cultivate cannabis; does NOT override your right to prohibit workers in your business from using cannabis; does NOT prohibit lawmakers from passing laws that affect public safety; and does NOT authorize anyone to contribute to the delinquency of a minor.

Our amendment puts patients first by allowing patients to treat themselves by putting mother nature’s seed into the ground without violating state law.  A YES vote on this amendment means patients won’t have to be dying to qualify for this medicine, farmers may choose a profitable crop, and law enforcement resources will be better utilized.  As a 64 year old native Floridian and businessman, I know Florida depends on retirees moving here with their money.  Without medical freedom, some are already moving elsewhere.  Wake up!

A Big Step for Cannabis Reform

Cannabis reform in Florida is taking a giant step forward this month. I’m part of a group, Floridians for Freedom, a political action committee, sponsoring the constitutional amendment, The Right of Adults to Cannabis. Our group is made up of people who believe it is the right time to end cannabis prohibition. Our mission is to eliminate prohibition and assure that people have the right to cannabis without fear of government interference.

As part of the team that created Floridians for Freedom, I assure you, we’ve thought long and hard about the best path to legal cannabis for otherwise responsible adults. Our members have worked for over 20 years trying every conceivable way to change the laws; we have waited long enough for incremental changes. Even after 20 years, we still only have a handful of people who can legally use and possess cannabis in Florida; even fewer have gotten the right through the Court to cultivate cannabis. Our amendment simply gives responsible adults the same right to cannabis we already enjoy with alcohol.

These 20 years have shown us that we need this constitutional amendment to make the changes necessary to reestablish our natural right to this plant. We believe personal liberty for responsible adults is what belongs in the Constitution. We are proposing this amendment to take back our fundamental right to heal ourselves. This amendment guarantees the rights of otherwise responsible adults to have, use and grow cannabis on their private property.

For patients, it provides the freedom to choose and the right to use cannabis as a first option in their treatment. This amendment returns the power to make decisions about cannabis to the individual. It authorizes the legislature to create strict rules governing the sale of cannabis.

Not only do I think access to cannabis is a civil right, it is beyond a civil right; treating yourself is a fundamental human right. This plant belongs to all of us - all simply because we were born human beings. More telling still, our brains and body have receptors for cannabinoids - the active ingredients in the plant. One of the very most basic of human rights is the right to be healthy and to take care of our health. Nature in all of her wisdom gave us a cure for every ailment. Every human being has an innate right to use the plants that nature has given us.

Whether you use cannabis for medicine, for recreation or something in between, if you are an otherwise responsible adult, it is time to give you the freedom to choose whether or not to use cannabis. Floridians have suffered long enough being denied access to this plant.
